Sudbury
Minor Hockey Association (SMHA) and the Nickel City Sons Hockey
Club (NCS) manage AAA hockey programs in the Northern Ontario
Hockey Association’s (NOHA) Districts No. 8 & No. 2
respectively. The two clubs have formed a committee comprised
of directors from each respective association. This committee
has been instructed to develop a model that will be used to
rationalize existing AAA teams within Districts No. 8 and No. 2
(Greater Sudbury Area). Furthermore, the model will recommend a
structure to manage future AAA hockey within Greater Sudbury.
Significant progress has been achieved to-date, however more
work, deliberations, and additional due diligence must be
completed. The committee is optimistic to have its model
recommendations before the respective boards prior to the end of
the year. If approved, it is anticipated that proposed changes
would take effect for the 2010/11 hockey season.
